AI Call Compliance and Acceptable Use
This page gives clients a practical starting point for using BookedOnMute responsibly. It is not legal advice and does not replace a review of the laws that apply to a specific business.
Effective date: July 20, 2026
1. Tell callers they are speaking with AI
Do not set up an AI voice to trick someone into believing it is a specific person. The opening should name the business and plainly say that the caller is speaking with an AI assistant.
Example: "Thanks for calling [Business]. I am the company AI assistant. I can help with questions and scheduling."
2. Recording and transcription
Recording and interception laws differ by state and situation. When recording or transcription is enabled, give a clear notice and obtain consent where required before it begins. A business taking calls from several states should use the strictest applicable rule and get legal advice for its situation.
Example: "This call may be recorded or transcribed for scheduling and service quality. Is that okay?" If the caller says no, stop the recording or use the approved alternative.
3. Outbound calls and texts
Federal robocalling rules treat AI-generated voices as artificial or prerecorded voices. Do not use BookedOnMute for unsolicited marketing calls, ringless voicemail, or automated texts without the consent and procedures required by the TCPA, FCC rules, state law, and applicable do-not-call rules.
Keep records showing the consent, the disclosure used, the date and source, the purpose of the contact, and any opt-out. Honor STOP and other revocation requests promptly.
4. Human handoff and emergencies
- Direct emergencies to 911 or the proper emergency service.
- Transfer or create a clear callback task when the AI is unsure, the caller is distressed, or the request is sensitive.
- Do not let the AI make safety-critical, medical, legal, financial, employment, housing, credit, or insurance decisions.
- Review failed calls, edge cases, and complaints, then update the workflow.
5. Collect less data
- Ask only for information needed for the approved workflow.
- Do not ask callers to say full payment-card numbers, passwords, government identifiers, or unnecessary sensitive details.
- Use secure payment links instead of taking card information through the voice assistant.
- Limit access, set a retention period, and delete information when it is no longer needed.
6. The client remains responsible
The business using the system remains responsible for its offers, scripts, claims, calling lists, consent, customer notices, industry rules, and actions taken through connected accounts. BookedOnMute may refuse or suspend a workflow that creates serious legal, safety, privacy, or platform risk.
